Two days ago, Microsoft released the specifications of the new Xbox Series X. Now it's Sony's turn. The Playstation 5 can do that.
Sony revealed the specifications of the Playstation 5 during a press conference. Unlike Microsoft, the Japanese console developer is using a smaller GPU overall, but the clock frequency is significantly higher. This is stated in the published press release:
We know fans are excited to learn more about our next-generation PlayStation 5 console and how it will shape the future of gaming. Today, we're proud to reveal more details behind the engineering and hardware components that make PlayStation 5 such an innovative and powerful platform - the ultra-high-speed SSD, integrated custom I/O system, custom AMD graphics with ray tracing, and highly immersive 3D audio. With these features, PS5 enables developers to maximize their creativity, creating expansive worlds and new gameplay experiences in the games they develop.
Playstation 5 – The Specifications
The next generation PlayStation is said to have a system-on-chip (SoC) inside. To be precise, a Zen 2 processor with eight cores has been installed, with a clock frequency of up to 3.5 GHz. Sony has a total of 16 GB of RAM. An 825 GB SSD has also been installed. It has its own controller that is linked to the RAM to increase loading times and reduce the RAM requirement itself. According to Sony, the GPU should calculate significantly faster thanks to the modern RDNA 2 architecture and overall high clock frequency. The company explains:
We also wanted to introduce new capabilities with the PS5's custom GPU. The extra GPU power allows for higher resolution in games, but a key new feature that will improve game visuals even further is ray tracing. Ray tracing simulates the way light moves in real life and how it bounces off different surfaces. Games that take advantage of this feature will render objects much more accurately and realistically. Water, glass, light refraction, a character's hair, and so on, will look even more realistic.

memory expansion and backward compatibility
The total performance of the Playstation 5 is 10.28 teraflops. For comparison: Microsoft specifies 12 teraflops for the Xbox Series X. The Playstation 5 supports 4K TVs as well as 8K TVs. The internal storage capacity will not be limited to 825 GB either. Users can connect an external hard drive via USB if they wish. Not only PS5 games but also PS4 titles can be stored and played on this. However, anyone who wants to move a PS4 game to the internal hard drive will not be disappointed. According to Sony, this should also be possible. Which console do you want to buy? Write it to us in the comments. (Photo by FototoCam / Bigstockphoto)
