Nintendo released its latest hit “Mario Kart Tour” for iOS and Android on September 25th – the racing game is said to have set a new download record.
The app analytics company Sensor Tower claims to have found that Mario Kart Tour was downloaded an estimated 90 million times in its first week. This would make the Mario racing game a record launch for Nintendo. The 90 million downloads are of course split between iOS and Android - around 36.5 million times on iPhone and iPad and around 53.5 million times on Android devices. Nintendo's previous leader was "Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp" - the game managed around 14.3 million downloads in its first week - "Super Mario Run" only managed 13 million downloads - according to Sensor Tower. The figures for "Super Mario Run" are somewhat controversial, however - according to Nintendo, there were 40 million downloads within the first four days. Mario Kart Tour was designed from the ground up for mobile gaming and has features that no other version has had before. The biggest difference to the console version is the view. In short - portrait mode. Mario Kart Tour can only be played portrait, as is already the case with Super Mario Run – the controls are also completely different.
What are the system requirements for Mario Kart Tour?
While players of the Nintendo Switch version have full control over the kart, users of the mobile version can only steer and shoot, as the kart accelerates on its own – similar to running in Super Mario Run.
To play Mario Kart Tour, you need at least iOS 10 or higher. This means that all iPhone models up to the iPhone 5S are compatible with Nintendo's new title. iPad users must have at least an iPad Air, iPad mini 2, iPad Pro or iPad 5th generation or newer to be able to start the racing experience. By the way, a Nintendo account is also required. (Photo by Dan Grytsku / Bigstockphoto)
