There are now plenty of rumors about the iPhone 12. Expectations from fans and analysts are high, but it could be a disappointment - at least for investors.
If the rumors about the next generation iPhone are true, we can look forward to a model with a new design, a 3D camera and 5G support. Longer battery life would be the highlight. According to this, the iPhone 12 should be a box office hit - so why should it be a disappointment for investors? The answer is obvious - 5G coverage! Speaking to CNBC, Loup Ventures partner Gene Munster explained that the switch to a 5G iPhone could be a "disappointment for investors" - at least in the first year. The introduction of 5G in the iPhone will of course be a great opportunity for Apple - says Munster - but 5G coverage could be a problem. There is therefore a risk that sales will suffer due to poor 5G coverage.
New design could be more interesting than 5G feature
US telecommunications companies remain optimistic that 5G coverage will be relatively widespread by the end of 2020. Verizon has said it will be able to provide 5G coverage to around 50 percent of the country by the end of 2020. The analyst still believes that the 5G-capable iPhone will sell worse than investors currently believe, unless the rollout actually progresses faster, which he does not expect. Sources from supplier circles have already reported in the past that Apple expects to sell 100 million iPhone 12 models in 2020. If the rumors are true and Apple is right, that would be an increase of around 20 percent over the previous year. But it should be said at this point that 5G connectivity is not the only possible reason to buy. The new design could be the main focus for many fans and 5G support could just be a nice feature.
