The rumor that Apple might add a ProMotion display to the iPhone 2020 series is not new. But now there are new details on the subject.
When the rumor about a ProMotion display in the iPhone 2020 lineup first surfaced, it was only laughed at. The reason for this was the source. The self-proclaimed leaker UniverseIce made this claim on Twitter in summer of 2019 But now there is a new source that claims to have heard similar information. It is Digitimes - the platform has a mixed track record. When it comes to equipping new devices, Digitimes stands out with a solid success rate - but when it comes to reports about important dates, the whole thing should be treated with caution. But now let's get to the rumor. Digitimes claims to have heard that Apple is planning to use ProMotion displays in the new iPhone generation.
Improved responsiveness
These should support a refresh rate of 120Hz - like the iPad Pro (from 2017), with the only difference being that the iPhone uses an OLED panel. Previous iPhone models have a 60 Hz display. Doubling the refresh rate would significantly improve the responsiveness of the entire user interface. This would, for example, significantly speed up scrolling and general data browsing and display it even more smoothly.
In addition, video content at 24 FPS, 48 FPS and 60 FPS could be played back more accurately and naturally without the iPhone artificially improving the playback. It remains to be seen whether Digitimes will be right. Other sources may have similar reports in the near future. (Photo by hadrian / Bigstockphot)
