No, it is not a hoax and yes, it is true. Both the Sparkasse and Commerzbank have officially released support for Apple Pay.
It's a bit like a miracle, but it was foreseeable. I wasn't the only one to predict it, many others did too. At some point, good old Sparkasse would include Apple Pay in its own offering, it was just a matter of time. As has now been announced in a press release, Sparkasse has approved Apple Pay. Sparkasse customers can now store their credit card in Apple's payment service, provided they have online banking and use the Sparkasse app with pushTAN or chipTAN. But be careful: Due to the rush, connection problems can of course occur – as with any other bank. The latest app update is also required. While the Sparkasse now supports Apple Pay for credit cards, the GiroCard will also be introduced next year. the institute confirmed a few weeks ago. Apple also announced a statement to that end.
Commerzbank welcomes Apple Pay
Even if it seems a little short notice, the step was announced yesterday. In addition to Sparkasse, Commerzbank has also officially introduced Apple Pay. This means that Commerzbank customers can now also store their credit card in Apple's Wallet app.
How do I set up Apple Pay?
In order to use Apple's payment service on an iPhone, Apple Watch or Mac, the user must of course go through the setup process. However, the Apple Group has made this very simple. The basic requirement is, of course, up-to-date software for the respective iDevice, a functioning Apple ID and the appropriate credit card.
Setting up on an iPhone, iPad or Mac:
To start the setup, you need to open the Wallet & Apple Pay area in the system settings. Then press the command "Add a new card". You will now be asked to make a selection and make an entry. Finally, press "Next" and the system will check the entries and decide whether Apple Pay will be activated. Some providers require additional verification to activate Apple Pay - the respective bank will make a corresponding request for this. Once the activation is complete, Apple Pay can be used immediately. By the way: If you want to see the transactions you have made, you can access the transaction history directly via the Wallet app.
Setting up on an Apple Watch:
To activate Apple Pay on an Apple Watch, the same steps are necessary as for the other devices. Only the access differs. The Wallet & Apple Pay app can be accessed under the Apple Watch app. (Photo by deagreez / Bigstockphoto)
