Instagram announced in May that it would hide the number of likes on photos and videos from users - the innovation has been tested in seven countries since July. Now Facebook is planning something similar.
The head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, announced the change at the time and gave a reason. According to Mosseri, users should no longer be influenced by the number of likes but should instead focus more on the actual content - this step would bring the different types of content much more into focus. We want people to worry less about how many likes they get on Instagram and spend a little more time with the people they care about.” – says Mosseri.
Not everyone likes it
Facebook now seems to be planning to do the same. A spokesperson told TechCrunch that the company also wants to start a test phase. However, no further details on the scope were given. A start date for the test run on Facebook was also not given. It is assumed that the test phase on Instagram was successful, which is why Facebook is now planning to do something similar. What the exact changes will look like remains unknown until the release.
Hiding the number of likes may actually have a positive effect - but not everyone sees it that way. Some influencers view the changes as extremely critical. (Photo by bigtunaonline / Bigstockphoto)
