Apple has released iOS 18.4.1 and iPadOS 18.4.1. These are minor updates that primarily focus on bug fixes and security improvements. The new version follows just two weeks after iOS 18.4 and doesn't bring any new features, but does include important technical fixes. If you've recently had issues with CarPlay or restored apps, this update may be especially relevant for you.
iOS 18.4.1 and iPadOS 18.4.1 are now available for all supported iPhones and iPads. You can install the new version over-the-air as usual. Simply go to Settings on your device, then General, and then Software Update. If your device is compatible, the update will appear there, and you can download and install it directly.
What exactly changes with iOS 18.4.1?
According to Apple's official release notes, the update contains only bug fixes and security updates. It doesn't include any new features or visible changes. Nevertheless, the fixes are important because they address several known issues:
- Fixed an issue with wireless CarPlay. CarPlay has not worked reliably in certain vehicles in the past. This issue should now be resolved with iOS 18.4.1.
- There were reports of apps suddenly reappearing after being deleted. This behavior was also corrected by the update.
- In addition, iOS 18.4.1 includes general security updates and minor bug fixes that contribute to system stability.
Apple does not provide any further details about the closed security vulnerabilities, but as with all iOS updates, it is recommended to install the new version promptly to stay up to date.
How do you install the update?
Installation is straightforward, as always. Make sure your device is sufficiently charged or plugged in, then follow these steps:
- Open the settings
- Tap General
- Select Software Update
- Download and install iOS 18.4.1
Depending on the model and connection, the process may take a few minutes.
More Apple updates: macOS, tvOS and visionOS also updated
In addition to iOS 18.4.1 and iPadOS 18.4.1, Apple has also released new versions for other operating systems. macOS 15.4.1, tvOS 18.4.1, and visionOS 2.4.1 each provided smaller updates that, like iOS, focus on bug fixes and security improvements. Users of multiple Apple devices should update all systems to benefit from the stability and security improvements.
What happens next?
Apple is already working on the next version: iOS 18.5. It's currently in beta and is expected to be released in May. With iOS 18.5, the focus is clearly on stability and bug fixes.
iOS 18.4.1 closes important gaps
Even though iOS 18.4.1 doesn't bring any visible new features, the update is useful and recommended. It fixes specific issues with CarPlay and unexpectedly restoring apps, and improves overall security. If you want to use your iPhone or iPad reliably, you should install the update as soon as possible. Time for fresh accessories?
