The rumors have been confirmed: Ted Lasso is getting a fourth season. After the third season ended in May 2023, the series seemed to be over. But now Apple TV+ has officially confirmed that the story will continue. Jason Sudeikis, lead actor and one of the creative minds behind the series, announced that the scripts are already being worked on. What's particularly exciting is that the new season brings with it a major change.
Ted Lasso is one of the most successful series on Apple TV+. With its mix of humor, depth, and emotional moments, it has built a huge fan base. The third season was seen as the conclusion to the story of AFC Richmond. But in recent months, there have been increasing indications that the series isn't over yet. Now it's certain: Season 4 is coming and will take a new direction.
Ted Lasso Season 4 is officially confirmed
The confirmation came directly from Jason Sudeikis. On the New Heights podcast with Jason and Travis Kelce, he said that the fourth season is currently being written. A short clip from the interview was posted on X (formerly Twitter). In it, Sudeikis says:
We're currently in season four, that much is certain. Ted coaches a women's team.
This confirms a rumor that had been circulating for some time. Journalist Sigmund Judge reported in February that filming would begin in London in May or June, and that the series would focus on the founding of a women's team at AFC Richmond. Although it was long unclear whether Sudeikis himself would reprise his role as Ted Lasso, the matter now appears to be settled. He will not only remain the lead actor, but will also continue to be a writer and producer on the series.
Reorientation: Ted Lasso trains a women's team
The biggest change in Season 4 is the focus on women's football. AFC Richmond will establish a women's team, and Ted Lasso will coach it. This marks a new chapter for the series. Until now, the story revolved around a men's Premier League team. Now, Ted Lasso will focus on women's football, an area that is gaining increasing attention. Which characters will return has not yet been officially confirmed. However, it is likely that key figures from the first three seasons will return. The constellation within the team, however, will change.

Who is involved in the fourth season?
In addition to Jason Sudeikis as lead actor and producer, several well-known names are back on board. Brendan Hunt, Jane Becker, Jamie Lee, Bill Wrubel, Joe Kelly, Bill Lawrence, and Brett Goldstein continue to work behind the scenes. Another new face in the production is Jack Burditt. He will serve as an executive producer. Burditt is known for his work on series such as Modern Family and 30 Rock. In an official press release Sudeikis commented on the new season:
We all live in a world where so many factors have led us to look before we leap. In season four, the people of AFC Richmond learn to leap before they look and discover that they land exactly where they belong.
Matt Cherniss, head of programming at Apple TV+, praised the series' impact:
Ted Lasso is a true juggernaut, inspiring a passionate fan base around the world and providing endless joy and laughter while spreading kindness, compassion, and unwavering faith.
When does season 4 start?
There's no exact release date yet. Since production won't begin until mid-2025, a release is expected in 2026 at the earliest.
Why a fourth season?
The third season seemed like a conclusion, but demand for more was high. Ted Lasso has a strong fan base, and many questions remained unanswered after the finale. The decision for a fourth season shows that the story isn't over yet. The introduction of a women's team is a logical step. Women's soccer is gaining importance worldwide, and Ted Lasso could help bring even more attention to this field. At the same time, the core of the series remains intact: optimism, team spirit, and Ted Lasso's unconventional leadership style.

Ted Lasso Season 4: New direction, proven charm
Ted Lasso returns with a breath of fresh air. Season 4 will focus on a new team but retain the series' charm and humor. While the release date for the new episodes hasn't been confirmed yet, fans can look forward to an exciting sequel. Until then, the first three seasons will continue to be available on Apple TV+.
