After several delays, Ubisoft is finally on the home stretch - Assassin's Creed Shadows is coming. The action role-playing game will be released on March 20th not only for PlayStation 5, Windows and Xbox, but also for the Mac. With this, Ubisoft is continuing its support for Apple devices and bringing another big AAA game to macOS.
The game takes players to 16th century Japan and offers an open world to explore. What's particularly exciting is the option to choose between two playable characters with different skills. The game will also offer some technical innovations, especially for Mac users with Apple Silicon chips.
A new Assassin's Creed in Japan
With Assassin's Creed Shadows, the successful game series is going in a new direction. After the smaller Mirage, which focused more on classic Assassin's Creed mechanics, Ubisoft is now once again focusing on a larger open-world adventure. The game is set in Japan in the late Sengoku period and revolves around the ongoing conflict between the Assassin Brotherhood and the Templar Order. Historical events and characters are set to play an important role. Players can choose between two characters: Fujibayashi Naoe, a Shinobi assassin who relies on stealth and silent attacks, or Yasuke, a samurai with strong fighting power. Both characters have their own progression systems, weapons and skills, so a completely different play style is possible depending on the choice.
game world and features
The open world of Assassin's Creed Shadows offers a variety of environments. In addition to traditional Japanese castles and bustling cities, there are rural areas, ports and shrines to explore. Particularly noteworthy is the dynamic weather and season system that can affect gameplay. The developers have also promised greater interaction with the environment. Enemies can react to environmental changes and players must adapt to different weather conditions. Marc-Alexis Côté, Executive Producer at Ubisoft, described Assassin's Creed Shadows as the team's "most ambitious" project. This suggests that Ubisoft places a lot of emphasis on an authentic and living world.
Mac version and technical requirements
For Mac users there are some special features The game will only run on Macs with Apple Silicon chips (M1 or newer). Devices with Intel processors are not supported. A highlight for owners of newer Macs: real-time ray tracing will be available on Macs with M3 and M4 chips. This should make lighting and shadows more realistic, which further improves the atmosphere. Ubisoft also plans to release the game for iPads with M-series chips later. However, there is no exact date for this yet.
Price and pre-order
Assassin's Creed Shadows will cost 69.99 euros. The game is already available in the Mac App Store pre-ordered so players can get started right away on March 20th.
Assassin's Creed Shadows: A real highlight for Mac gamers
With Assassin's Creed Shadows, Ubisoft is bringing one of the most popular game series into a completely new environment. Feudal Japan, two playable characters with different styles and a lively, dynamic world bring a breath of fresh air to the series. The release is a big step, especially for Mac users, as AAA titles of this size have rarely been released for macOS at the same time as other platforms. Anyone who owns a compatible device and is an Assassin's Creed fan can look forward to a comprehensive and visually impressive game. (Image: Ubisoft)
