Severance is one of the most successful series on Apple TV+ and has built up a large fan base since its launch. The series delights with its unique mix of mystery, sci-fi and psychological thriller. After a long wait of almost three years, the second season finally returned. But many fans are now wondering if and when a third season will be released. Ben Stiller, one of the creative minds behind Severance, has commented on this and confirmed that production is already underway. An official renewal by Apple TV+ is still pending, but there are numerous indications that Severance season 3 is certain.
The wait between the first two seasons was unusually long, mainly due to delays in filming and more. Now there is good news: work on the third season is already underway and Stiller suggests that it won't take as long this time. Although Apple TV+ has not yet confirmed the official renewal, there is little doubt that the series will continue. Severance is one of the few productions on the streaming service that has managed to establish itself in the mainstream.
Authors' office already active - A clear sign for season 3
Ben Stiller told The Hollywood Reporter confirmedthat a writers' office for Severance season 3 has already been set up in Los Angeles. This is a clear sign that the next season is being concretely planned. In the past, Apple TV+ has often only announced a renewal shortly before the end of a current season. The official confirmation for season 3 is expected to come no later than March 2025, shortly before the season 2 finale airs. Ben Stiller also explained that budget negotiations in Hollywood have changed a lot since the writers' strike. Production costs are an important factor, but Apple seems to be sticking with Severance. Stiller emphasized that the quality of the series will not suffer as a result.
Why is there no official extension yet?
It is not unusual for Apple TV+ to announce an official renewal late. This has also been the case with other successful series such as Ted Lasso or The Morning Show. The fact that a writers' office already exists for the new season shows that Apple wants to continue the series. A cancellation is therefore extremely unlikely. Severance is one of the few series on the streaming service that have established themselves as real prestige productions.
When will Severance Season 3 be released?
The big question for fans remains when the third season of Severance will be released. Ben Stiller and series creator Dan Erickson have repeatedly stressed that quality is the top priority. But that also means that a quick release is not guaranteed. While season 2 took almost three years to arrive, season 3 could come out a little quicker. Nevertheless, a launch before 2026 is definitely unlikely. Stiller has confirmed, however, that they will try to keep the wait time between seasons as short as possible.
Apple TV+ continues to focus on high-quality series
Apple TV+ has established itself as a provider of high-quality series in recent years. In addition to Severance, productions such as Ted Lasso, Silo, The Morning Show and Shrinking are among the streaming service's greatest successes. For 9.99 euros per month, Apple TV+ offers a growing selection of exclusive films and series. Severance remains one of the service's most important productions, which further increases the likelihood of a long-term continuation.
Severance Season 3 in the pipeline: Apple TV+ is holding back on confirmation
The third season of Severance is as good as certain, even if Apple TV+ has not yet released the official confirmation. The active writers' office is a clear sign that the series will continue. According to Ben Stiller, the waiting time between seasons should be shorter than for season 2. Nevertheless, a release before 2026 is definitely not to be expected. However, fans can rest assured that Apple will continue to stand behind the series and that the quality of the production will be maintained. An official extension should be announced by March 2025 at the latest. (Image: Apple)
