As expected, Apple has published a new support document with release notes for standard AirPods, AirPods Pro, and AirPods Max firmware updates. According to Apple, the page will include new features and changes in AirPods firmware updates in the future.
The latest firmware version for AirPods is 4E71 and was released in May. Unfortunately, this is support document Apple's update for this version isn't particularly helpful, as the release notes only mention "bug fixes and other improvements" without providing any further details. Hopefully the release notes for future firmware versions will be more detailed.
AirPods firmware updates receive release notes
On an iPhone updated to iOS 16, you can find a link to Apple's support document for AirPods firmware updates by opening the Settings app, navigating to General -> About -> AirPods, and tapping Firmware Version. The support document is similar to the one Apple has been providing for AirTag firmware updates since the beginning of the year. There is still no manual way to update the AirPods. The new firmware will install automatically when the AirPods are charged and within Bluetooth range of an iPhone, iPad, or Mac. (Photo by Unsplash / Akhil Yerabati)
