Apple has now officially introduced the AirPods Pro 2, which are equipped with a brand new H2 chip.
The brand new H2 chip is the successor to the H1 and enables new functions such as improved noise cancellation, a new transparency mode and significantly better sound. Below is a list of the new functions:
- Active Noise Cancellation – The H2 chip in AirPods Pro 2 cancels out twice as much noise as the original AirPods Pro.
- Adaptive Transparency Mode – The H2 chip enables on-device processing that reduces loud ambient noises such as a siren, construction work, or loud speakers at a concert, without completely blocking the noise.
- Improved acoustics – Apple says the H2 chip, combined with the new low-distortion audio driver and dedicated amplifier, delivers an “exceptional acoustic experience.” AirPods Pro deliver richer bass and clearer sound across a wider frequency range.
- Personalized Spatial Audio – Apple has touted personalized spatial audio as a highlight of the AirPods Pro 2, which will be introduced in iOS 16. While this feature is not exclusive to the AirPods Pro 2 as it uses the iPhone's TrueDepth camera, it does bring benefits.
Other features of the AirPods Pro 2 include touch controls for adjusting the volume directly on the AirPods, an improved skin detection sensor that turns playback on and off more accurately, and an improved battery that lasts a total of 6 hours, 1.5 hours more than the previous model.
AirPods Pro 2: Price and Availability
The AirPods Pro case is also sweat and water resistant (IPX4) and features a loop for a lanyard, Memoji customization, improvements to Find My and a built-in speaker to locate the case if lost. However, the AirPods Pro 2 do not support lossless audio playback as was rumored, as they still use Bluetooth functionality, which is unable to play Apple Lossless Audio Codec files. Those who want the new earbuds can get them from Friday, September 9th for 299 euros pre-order. Delivery will start on September 23rd. (Image: Apple)
