Apple has now officially unveiled the new iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro series. With the A16 Bionic chip and the new Dynamic Island replacing the notch, there is a lot that Apple did not reveal about these phones at the event - here is an overview.
One of the most interesting facts about the iPhone 14 Pro is that this phone will now only be available with eSIM – at least in the US. Apple has confirmed that all other regions will continue to receive a regular model with a physical SIM card slot.
Bluetooth 5.3 support & always-on display
- Bluetooth 5.3 support: Since the release of the new LC3 codec last month, the iPhone 14 Pro can transmit at much lower bitrates without sacrificing the audio quality of the current Bluetooth standard. With this technology available on the iPhone, you can expect improvements in phone calls, music, playback, and more.
- No support for WiFi 6E: The new iPhone also does not support WiFi 6E technology. Unfortunately, the new iPhone sticks with WiFi 6 802.11ax with 2×2 MIMO, which is available in the iPhone 11.
- Always-On Display, Brighter Screen: For the first time, iPhone offers an Always-On Display thanks to its new 1Hz refresh rate display. In addition, the 14 Pro can achieve the same HDR peak brightness as the Pro Display XDR at 1600 nits and outdoor peak brightness at up to 2000 nits.
- Weight and thickness: There was a time when Apple was obsessed with lighter and thinner iPhones. That's not the case with the iPhone 14. The new models are just as heavy as the previous generation.
Apple is improving Cinematic Mode
- iPhone 13 Pro: 204 grams / iPhone 14 Pro: 206 grams
- iPhone 13 Pro Max: 240 grams / iPhone 14 Pro Max: 240 grams
- In terms of thickness, the 13 Pro models are 0.30 inches (7.65 mm) thick and the 14 Pro versions are 0.31 inches (7.85 mm), making them thicker than the previous generation.
- Same storage capacities: While there were rumors that the iPhone 14 Pro could be available starting at 256GB of storage, it is now known that it will be available with the same options as the previous model, i.e. 128GB, 256GB, 512GB and 1TB.
- Cinematic Mode: One of the best features of the iPhone 13 was Cinematic Mode. With the iPhone 14 Pro, users can now shoot up to 4K HDR at 30 fps.
- Emergency SOS via satellite: Apple says Emergency SOS via satellite will be available in the US and Canada starting in November and that the service will be free for two years when you activate the iPhone 14 Pro. How much it will cost after that is still unclear.
