In a few days, Apple will introduce the next generation of iPhones - the iPhone 14 series. Now an insider has spoken out and published several pictures showing the always-on display.
As the US blog MacRumors reported, an insider has spoken out again, having already revealed a few days ago that the iPhone 14 Pro's display cutouts will have a single, uniform "pill" at the top of the display, rather than two different cutouts. According to the new information, the iOS 16 lock screen will interact directly with the iPhone 14 Pro's always-on display, allowing the integration of notifications as well as the depth effect and colors of wallpapers. The iPhone 14 Pro's status bar will also change, with more space available at the top of the display. For example, the cellular signal indicator will be moved to the left, and the battery status will again be displayed across the entire width on the lock screen and in the notification center when the device is locked.

iPhone 14 Pro: Apple will release an iOS update after market launch
The source has posted several graphics allegedly from Apple on the MacRumors forums dividedthat illustrate some of the iPhone 14 Pro's software changes. The iPhone 14 Pro will apparently feature the following features and specific changes:
- The background of lock screen wallpapers with depth effect will be removed and completely darkened when the display is in always-on mode while the foreground is dimmed. In addition, the foreground will be colored and edge highlighted based on user customization.
- Widgets are visible on the always-on display, but are hidden and shown unnoticed at certain intervals to prevent OLED burn-in.
- The content displayed on the always-on lock screen and the fully-lit lock screen must be configured in the same way and cannot be separated from each other, meaning they must have the same wallpaper, color choices, fonts, and widgets. The core visual elements of the always-on display itself can be customized independently.
- Notifications are part of the iPhone 14 Pro's always-on display. Like on the regular lock screen, notifications slide in one at a time from the bottom and remain unobtrusively visible for 10 seconds. Once the display wakes up, notifications animate from the bottom and transition to the custom settings for how notifications are displayed on the lock screen (e.g. number, stack, or list).
- Apple will also allow users to enable a notification counter at the bottom of the always-on display.
Apple is also reportedly planning to release an update like iOS 16.0.1 or 16.1 shortly after the iPhone 14 Pro launch that will fix issues with the device's always-on display and wallpapers.

The company is in the final stages of developing the feature but is still encountering bugs and deploying software engineers from various teams, including Apple Watch, to finalize the always-on display experience ahead of launch. The iPhone 14 Pro is expected to be unveiled during the Far Out event on Wednesday, September 7. The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro are expected to be available for pre-order starting Friday, September 9, and will begin shipping Friday, September 16.
