Apple plans to list the new features and changes in future AirPods firmware updates in a support document on its website.
In the fifth developer beta of iOS 16, if you navigate to Settings -> General -> About -> AirPods and tap Firmware Version, a new page will appear indicating that AirPods firmware details are available under support.apple.com are available, along with a link to a support document that will likely be made available by the time iOS 16 is released in September.
AirPods Firmware: Apple becomes more transparent
The new AirPods support document will likely look similar to the one Apple released for AirTag firmware updates earlier this year. As reported on Reddit mentioned, the new firmware version page shows the version number for the AirPods and chargers. The last firmware version for the AirPods was released in May and is listed as "4E71" in the Settings app. There is still no manual way to update the firmware on the AirPods as the updates are installed automatically.
