Rumors about future HomePod models have been documented several times. Now an analyst claims that Apple could soon introduce a new smart speaker.
After Apple discontinued the large HomePod, there was much speculation about whether Apple would revive the controversial product. Now Ming-Chi Kuo published new information suggesting that Apple could introduce a new version of the HomePod in late 2022 or early 2023. Unfortunately, Kuo did not say which HomePod it would be. That means Apple could introduce a successor to the HomePod mini, but also a completely different, possibly larger, model. It also remains unknown what innovations the device might offer. He only says that Apple is still trying to figure out how to succeed in the smart speaker market.
New Apple HomePod: How much innovation can we expect?
Apple will unveil a new version of the HomePod in 4Q22-1Q23. There might not be any major innovations in hardware design. Smart speakers are undoubtedly one of the most important elements of the home ecosystem, but I think Apple is still figuring out how to succeed in this market.
The HomePod mini hasn't been updated since its debut in November 2020, other than receiving new colors. The new rumor suggests that what Apple plans to unveil will at least be a new variant of the product, rather than a new color variant. As a reminder, previous rumors about Apple's smart speaker include a cheaper large HomePod, a HomePod soundbar that can also be used as an Apple TV, and a HomePod with a screen. Judging by Kuo's comment on the innovation, the device could be a simple remake of the large HomePod. (Photo by franky242 / Bigstockphoto)
