The iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 2 are now officially classified as “vintage” products, meaning Apple no longer manufactures components used for repairs.
Apple defined A device is only considered "vintage" if it has not been sold for five years. Until then, Apple offers service and spare parts for its devices. But after that, repairs depend on which components are available.
Apple puts iPad Air 2 & iPad mini 2 on vintage list
The iPad Air 2 was the first iPad to feature the Touch ID biometric sensor, after it was introduced in the iPhone 5s. It also received the same Secure Enclave as the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in 2014 to support Apple Pay. In comparison, the iPad mini 2 lacked both Touch ID - which was only introduced with the iPad mini 3 in October 2014 - and the Secure Enclave. However, the iPad mini did get a Retina display and an improved FaceTime HD camera. (Photo by alexey_boldin / Bigstockphoto)
