Apple released the first preview of iOS 15.5, iPadOS 15.5 and macOS 12.4 for developers on Tuesday evening. It is not yet known what new features the updates contain. However, Apple gives a clear indication regarding Universal Control.
As described on the Apple Developer website described, you cannot use Universal Control between devices running different versions of iPadOS and macOS. This means that if you install the iPadOS 15.5 beta on your iPad, you will need to install macOS 12.4 beta on your Mac to keep Universal Control enabled.
Universal Control: Is this a bug?
Of course, this is just a bug that will surely be fixed before the update is released to the public. However, if you rely on Universal Control in your workflow, you may want to wait a little longer before updating to the iPadOS 15.5 beta. Although Universal Control was introduced with iPadOS 15.4 and macOS 12.3, Apple still refers to the feature as a "beta." If you're a developer, you can download the latest betas for Apple's operating systems now from the Apple Developer website. For users enrolled in the Apple Beta Software Program, the updates will be released a little later. (Image: Apple)
