Apple released the first beta of tvOS 15.4 on Thursday evening. With the new update, the company is finally giving the TV box a new function.
According to Apple, tvOS 15.4 will add support for unencrypted WiFi networks. This means that users can use their iPhone or iPad to connect to Apple TV on networks that require additional login steps. The company explained the whole thing as follows:
With support for captive WiFi networks in tvOS, you can use your iPhone or iPad to connect your Apple TV to networks that require additional login steps, such as those in hotels or dorms.
This feature will make life easier for Apple TV users. If you like to travel and have your Apple TV with you, you can use your iPhone or iPad to connect to networks that require additional login steps, rather than entering your login information or having trouble with a hotel smart TV.
tvOS 15.4: Developers also benefit
Captive WiFi network support in tvOS 15.4 also comes in handy if you're taking your Apple TV to a presentation and need to log into a corporate network or even a public WiFi network. Apple is also offering developers a few new StoreKit improvements with tvOS 15.4. For example, SKTestSession has three new methods to simulate a subscription that requires consent to a price increase, simulate consent to an upcoming price increase, and simulate rejection of a price increase in automated tests.
