Netflix officially expanded its subscription on November 3rd and added a gaming section for Android users. The first games are now also available for iOS users.
As the video streaming market becomes more of a focus, Netflix is looking for new ways to entertain. Games are one of the first projects. But the selection of titles so far is rather modest. Nevertheless, Netflix is expected to expand more aggressively in this area soon. Netflix subscribers can now enjoy the following games on iPhone and iPad:
Netflix Games: Titles must be downloaded individually as an app
Just like Android, the first Netflix games are local binaries that are downloaded individually from the App Store to play. When you launch these apps, you will be asked to sign in with your Netflix account. Interestingly, after a long time, the company is allowing its customers to subscribe to Netflix through Apple's in-app purchase system. Netflix famously stopped offering in-app purchases in the Netflix app in 2018 to save on Apple's 15-30%ige commission. App Store rules currently prevent a game streaming service from offering its titles within an application. However, these rules do not matter at the moment because Netflix does not yet offer game streaming. Each game is a standalone download that runs locally. Analysts believe that Netflix will later move into server-side game streaming and then face the same issues with getting approved in the App Store.
