Meta, formerly Facebook, is reportedly working on an Apple Watch competitor. Now a picture has surfaced that is said to show the new smartwatch.
An image of the as-yet-unnamed watch was spotted in Facebook's iOS app View, a software that controls smart glasses the company unveiled in September in collaboration with Ray-Ban. Developer Steve Moser discovered the image and subsequently shared it with Bloomberg. The design appears to take inspiration from the Apple Watch, such as the square shape with rounded corners and recessed lugs. The control buttons are located on the right and top side of the case, while the camera on the front is housed in a recess at the bottom of the dial. The Verge has already shared details about the design of Facebook's smartwatch, claiming that the device could have two cameras and a detachable display.
Meta Smartwatch should also be able to monitor health
The first camera, likely visible in the image above, will be used for video calling while the second, higher resolution camera on the back of the display can be used for video recording when removed from the stainless steel frame. Images, videos and other content will likely be uploaded directly to meta services.

The smartwatch is expected to feature LTE connectivity and health monitoring features, with later versions expected to serve as a user interface for augmented reality glasses. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg hinted at the possibility of wrist-based control in a product demonstration showcasing the company's vision of the metaverse. Citing sources familiar with the company's plans, reported Bloomberg that Meta is developing three generations of the smartwatch, the first of which may be released in 2022. However, it is not known whether the device in today's images represents a final product design. (Photo by Golib / Bigstockphoto)
