Apple last updated the Mac mini in November 2020. The biggest change was the integration of the first Apple Silicon processor. But a brand new device is due to be released soon.
The Mac Mini was one of the first Apple products to receive the M1 processor in 2020, alongside the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro. At that time, the design of the devices was left untouched. But this is set to change soon, as Mark Gurman reports in the latest edition of his newsletter reportedGurman says the company still sells an Intel model because people use it "as a software development machine, as a server, or for their video editing needs." But that will change with the next model, a Mac mini with the M1X chip.
Mac mini in new design: Market launch could take place by the end of the year
Gurman claims that the new model will also have an updated design and more ports than the current device. Gurman originally wrote that the next Mac mini will be released shortly after the new MacBook Pro is released. Jon Prosser has also promised a new design as part of the next update. According to him, the 2021 Mac mini will have a new case with a "plexiglass-like" reflective surface on the top in an otherwise aluminum case. In addition, the device will offer more ports, including four USB4 / Thunderbolt 3 ports, two USB-A, Ethernet and HDMI ports. The market launch is scheduled to take place by the end of the year. So it should remain exciting. (Image: rendersbyian x Jon Prosser)
