At WWDC 2021, Apple introduced watchOS 8 alongside iOS 15 and others. The new Apple Watch operating system brings with it some useful innovations. Siri also becomes more useful in combination with training.
Apple has added a number of minor improvements and changes in watchOS 8. One of these features is small but nice. However, the feature has remained under the radar until now. To be precise, it is a new "Voice Feedback" option. The feature can be activated in the Settings app on the Apple Watch itself or via the Watch app on the iPhone.
watchOS 8: Announce your training progress
The new feature allows the Workout app (Activities) to generate audio announcements that can be heard through the AirPods or other wireless headphones paired with the Apple Watch. The announcements inform users about their training progress, for example when they reach the next kilometer during a run or halfway to the goal of a timed workout. The feature is simple and small but particularly useful. After all, from now on you no longer have to constantly look at the smartwatch to see your progress. Incidentally, the voice feedback seems to occur whenever the Activities app on the Apple Watch "buzzes" the user's wrist.
Apple Watch update to be released in fall
During a run or walk workout, for example, the user will receive a voice prompt every time they have covered a kilometer. Users will also receive acoustic notifications when activity rings are closed during the workout and when the training goal is reached (assuming no open workout has been started). watchOS 8 is currently in beta and will be released to Apple according to released for all users in the fall.
