In April, Apple announced a new generation of iPad Pro with the M1 chip, 5G support and a mini-LED display. However, the new display technology is exclusively installed in the 12.9-inch model - at least for now.
In a new letter to investors, well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has made a new prediction regarding the iPad Pro series. According to him, the entire iPad Pro 2022 lineup - consisting of an 11- and 12.9-inch model - will use mini-LED technology. According to Kuo, Apple has invested in additional suppliers of mini-LED displays as the company plans to use the technology in more products. Apple's first Device with a mini-LED display was the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, which was introduced in April. As a reminder: Mini-LED technology is based on thousands of small LEDs in the backlight, which results in higher contrast ratios and deeper blacks, similar to OLED.
iPad Pro 2022: With or without glass back?
Because this technology is more expensive, Apple has only included it in the 12.9-inch iPad Pro this year. However, the analyst believes that adding more mini-LED display suppliers will reduce the cost of the component and help the company manufacture more devices with the new panel. So with the next generation of iPad Pro, the smaller 11-inch model is also expected to get a mini-LED display. Kuo's report also confirms that the 2022 iPad Pro will likely retain the same screen sizes as the current generation. Bloomberg has previously claimed that Apple is developing a redesigned iPad Pro with a glass back. It remains unclear whether Apple will actually introduce the new design in 2022.
