Rumors of the end of Beats may currently be exaggerated, as a new report claims that former HTC Android hardware designer Scott Croyle is working for Apple on future designs for Beats by Dre products.
Apple now regularly releases special versions of Beats headphones - like a limited edition Studio3 or the glow-in-the-dark Powerbeats. However, the company hasn't introduced many brand new Beats products recently. But despite rumors to the contrary, that could soon change. Apple acquired the audio company in 2014 for three billion dollars. However, rumors have persisted for several months that the Beats brand would soon be discontinued. In fact, Beats 1 was quickly dropped and the Beats section on Apple's website briefly disappeared in 2020.
Apple's Beats brand: rumors about new products
Also in 2020, however, Apple hired designer Scott Croyle, who was responsible for HTC's design for five years, among other things. According to 9to5mac Croyle was specifically tasked with overseeing the design of Beats products going forward. Beats has reportedly been working with Ammunition - the company it stopped using for design after the Apple takeover - and will continue to do so. Croyle is responsible for the connection between Beats and Ammunition. There are no details about what exactly this collaboration will entail. But there are rumors about new products. An unnamed source has reportedly claimed that the Beats team is currently studying speakers from other companies and that it will continue to focus on headphones. (Photo by DedMityay / Bigstockphoto)
