Rumor has it that the iPhone 2021 series will have a smaller notch. Pictures of a supposed dummy now show what the whole thing might look like.
The Japanese Apple blog Macotakara has pictures and videos an alleged dummy model of the iPhone 13 Pro / iPhone 12S Pro published. This mockup offers a closer look at the potentially redesigned notch as well as design changes to the front camera. The alleged iPhone 2021 dummy model was created based on previous rumors. According to the report, the notch on the iPhone 13 Pro / iPhone 12S Pro will have a height of 5.35 mm. For comparison: The notch on the iPhone 12 Pro has a height of 5.30 mm.

iPhone 2021: Face ID components are repositioned
In terms of width, the iPhone 13 Pro / iPhone 12S Pro notch reportedly measures 26.8 mm. The iPhone 12 Pro notch measures a whopping 34.83 mm in width. This means that the notch on the new model will likely be smaller in width but slightly higher. But why should it be higher? The reason is that Apple will position the speaker or earpiece at the top of the new iPhone model. Strictly speaking, the repositioning of the Face ID components including the speaker will make the notch smaller. This design change was already predicted for the iPhone 12 series last year. Whether it will actually be implemented this year remains to be seen.

Better display, return of Touch ID
The dummy device obtained by Macotakara also shows that Apple is considering moving the front camera from the right side of the iPhone notch to the left side. There is no clear explanation for this change. But it could have something to do with the internal layout of the notch sensors. Aside from the smaller notch and the moved front camera, there isn't too much to glean from this dummy device. The iPhone 2021 is expected to be very similar to its predecessor in terms of design. That is, fundamental changes are only expected on the inside of the devices. For example, improvements to the display are expected and a Touch ID sensor is expected under the screen.
