The AirPods Max have been available in stores since December 15, 2020. Now iFixit has taken a first look inside the headphones.
The repair professionals at iFixit traditionally disassemble every new Apple device to get a close look inside - and that's no different with the AirPods Max. This teardown is a preview. When opening it, it became clear that the AirPods Max are harder to disassemble than other headphones. As we already know, the audio accessory comes with two 40 mm dynamic drivers, two magnetic ear pads, eight noise-canceling microphones and two H1 chips inside - one for each side.

AirPods Max: “Not so easy to take apart”
An X-ray of the AirPods Max has revealed that Apple's over-ear headphones have two battery cells, but both are housed in a single ear cup. In the process, iFixit found that there are some solder joints and wires near the batteries. While the speaker units are protected with screws, there are parts that contain adhesive.

The repair professionals had to heat them up to completely disassemble the headphones. explained the company:
These headphones are not as easy to take apart as they seem or as you might expect from other headphones.
iFixit has provided initial images showing internal components such as the Bluetooth chip, audio amplifier, accelerometer and more. According to the company, a detailed analysis will follow in the next few days. (Image: Apple)
