Rumors about the first foldable iPhone have been around for a long time. In addition to reports, several patents have already been discovered. Now it is claimed that there will be a release date.
The Chinese United Daily News claims to have learned new information regarding foldable iPhone devices. According to the report, Apple has allegedly commissioned Foxconn to conduct extensive tests. The alleged plan is for Apple to unveil the first version in September 2022. The panels are said to be from Samsung. According to the report, both OLED and micro-LED displays are being tested. Depending on the test results, the foldable iPhone could even use a micro-LED panel. Reports that Samsung has already provided some samples were documented over a year ago. But Foxconn is said to be testing more than just the panel itself. The contract also stipulates that the actual folding mechanism, which was developed by Apple, will also undergo extensive testing.
Foldable iPhone: The design remains a well-kept secret
The prerequisite for this is that the folding mechanism must pass a total of 100,000 opening and closing tests. For comparison: for laptops, the number is between 20,000 and 30,000. However, the final assembly will not be carried out by Foxconn alone, provided the device is actually approved. It was originally claimed that such a device was still years away from being ready for the market. This makes this report all the more surprising. However, no concrete details about the design were given. If the information is actually real, the design seems to be a well-kept secret so far. Since it is not possible to verify the authenticity, the whole thing should be viewed with skepticism as always. Apple's interest in this technology is an open secret, however, as there are now many patents related to it. AirPods Pro on special offer at Amazon – available now.
