Google has announced two major innovations for its own map service. Google Maps will return to the Apple Watch and will now support CarPlay.
Google Maps was removed from the Apple Watch in 2017. But it is making a comeback, as the search engine giant confirmed today. The company explains in its own blog:
When you're on the go, smartwatches help you stay connected and see important information at a glance. The Google Maps app for Apple Watch makes it easy to navigate by car, bike, public transit, or on foot.
You'll quickly get estimated arrival times and step-by-step directions to destinations you've saved, like home or work, as well as other shortcuts you've set in the app. For all other destinations, you can start navigation from your phone and pick up where you left off on your watch.
Finally here: CarPlay Dashboard
The application is set to be rolled out worldwide in the next few weeks. In addition to the Apple Watch app, CarPlay support has also been confirmed. Google made the following statement on this:
In the CarPlay Dashboard, you can now change or pause songs from your favorite media app, fast-forward or rewind podcasts or audiobooks, or quickly check calendar appointments without leaving turn-by-turn navigation in Google Maps. Information is displayed in a split-screen view so you can get the information you need while staying focused on the road.
According to the company, Google Maps is now available with CarPlay Dashboard in all CarPlay-supported vehicles worldwide. (Photo by bigtunaonline / Bigstockphoto)
