Apple has now released the Golden Master of iOS 13.6 and Co. This means that the final version will be rolled out to all users shortly. The update contains a few important new features. iOS updates are usually downloaded automatically in the background - a process that cannot be controlled by the user. Here, only automatic installation can be activated or deactivated. But thanks to iOS 13.6, this is now changing. This means that from now on, users can decide for themselves whether software updates should be automatically downloaded and installed in the background or not. For this purpose, a second switch has been implemented in the settings under "General" in the "Software update" section. The "Automatic update" switch enables the software to be downloaded in the background as long as the device is connected to WiFi, while the "Install iOS update" switch controls the automatic installation.
iOS 13.6: Health gets symptom section
Both switches are currently activated by default. So if you don't want that, you will have to deactivate the whole thing manually after updating to iOS 13.6. The second new feature is in the Health app. There is now an area called "Symptoms". The section includes a total of 33 different symptoms, including body and muscle pain, changes in appetite, coughing, dizziness, fainting, headaches, nausea and more. Users can log one of these signs of illness in the corresponding section and thus track it. Each individual symptom has an explicit description. The input options vary depending on the symptoms and have the option to determine the severity.
iOS 13.6: These devices support CarKey
The CarKey function will make it possible to store digital car keys in the Wallet app. Users can use them to lock and unlock a car and start the engine. Authentication via Face ID or Touch ID is necessary to initiate the process - but there is also an express mode. Basically, the functionality is the same as Apple Pay. If desired, such keys can be shared temporarily or permanently with friends or family members via iMessage. Compatible devices include: iPhone XR, iPhone XS or newer and Apple Watch from Series 5. BMW made the following statement about the compatible vehicles:
We are pleased to announce the availability of Digital Key for iPhone for a wide range of models: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, X5, X6, X7, X5M, X6M and Z4 if manufactured after July 1, 2020. If your vehicle is capable, it will appear in the Vehicle tab.
