Streaming service Spotify has started introducing a new feature that enables real-time lyrics.
How TechCrunch reported, Spotify has started introducing real-time lyrics. The feature has been rolled out in 26 countries, including India, countries in Southeast Asia and Latin America. Spotify users can now activate the lyrics of the song playing in the "Now Playing" area and sing along - fun karaoke sessions are guaranteed. Specifically, the update was released in the following markets: Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Mexico, Peru, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, El Salvador, Uruguay, Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan, Singapore and Hong Kong.
Licensing agreements could be the reason for delay
The feature is being introduced based on an agreement with the lyrics provider Musixmatch. When and if Spotify will expand the update to markets such as the USA, Germany, etc. remains to be seen. Licensing agreements are required for this, which is why the whole thing could of course take some time. However, it can be assumed that the company will make an effort and will not exclude western countries from the feature. By the way – Apple Music has received the feature under iOS 13 and macOS 10.15.4. So if you are thinking about switching, this shouldn’t be a reason to fail.
