Last year, the savings bank already Support the Girocard for Apple Pay in 2020. Now it is finally official. The new "Sparkassen-Card" opens up many new possibilities.
In a new blog post on “Finanz Informatik” – the IT service provider of the Sparkasse – the new “Sparkassen-Card” was unveiled. This is a standard giro card that also has the functions of a debit Mastercard. According to the publication:
In the second half of 2020, the card portfolio in the Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe will be expanded to include the Sparkassen-Card with the new co-badge Debit Mastercard (DMC). In addition to familiar features such as direct debiting to the current account or contactless payment, the card offers extensive new application possibilities.
Sparkassen-Card: The most powerful debit card in Germany
In addition to international acceptance (around 45 million acceptance points at home and abroad), the extensive range of possible uses includes paying on the Internet and using mobile payment systems such as Apple Pay and Co.! However, Android is set to take precedence when it launches. Apple Pay will therefore be activated at a later date.
In addition to the Maestro debit payment method, the Mastercard payment system can also be used as a debit payment method and, in combination with the Girocard, offers extended functionality. A debit card as powerful as the Sparkassen Card with Co-Badge DMC is not yet available in this form on the German market.
