An updated support document confirmed that LG plans to offer AirPlay 2 & HomeKit support on select 2018 LG TVs.
Published last year, support document around AirPlay 2 & HomeKit was recently updated by LG. The interesting thing is that 2018 models are also taken into account. According to the info box, some of the LG Smart TVs built in 2018 will receive the AirPlay 2 & HomeKit update. Specifically, these are the LCD models with "SK" or "UK" in the name and all OLED models with "B8" to "Z8" in the name. According to the document, the software update will be rolled out by October 2020. With AirPlay 2, users can stream videos, music, podcasts and more directly from an iPhone, iPad or Mac to a compatible LG Smart TV device without the need for an Apple TV.
The petition helped
With HomeKit support, the devices can even be controlled via the Home app or optionally via Siri. In addition to AirPlay 2 and HomeKit, selected 2018 models will have access to Apple TV application However, it is not clear which models this specifically involves. The company originally announced the functions only for devices from 2019 onwards, as this was the only way to guarantee a "seamless user experience". However, this led to frustration among many users, which is why a petition was started, which seems to have helped. (Image: LG)
