Apple has made some changes to the App Store Review Guidelines. In addition to new requirements related to iOS 13, the rules for push notifications have also been revised.

With the latest revision of the App Store Review Guidelines, Apple wants to ensure the continued compatibility of apps with iPhone and iPad models. Features such as "Sign in with Apple" should finally be included. However, as part of these adjustments, the rules for push notifications have also been revised. Until now, app developers were not allowed to use them for advertising purposes. But that is exactly what many have done and Apple has not done anything about it so far. The change now stipulates that push notifications for advertising purposes will be permitted in the future - but under one condition.

Stricter Controls on Dating & Fortune Telling

The user must explicitly allow this. This means that in the future, in addition to classic push notifications, you will also be able to select those for advertising purposes. Developers must therefore adapt their apps and offer an opt-in or opt-out option. At the same time, Apple confirmed stricter controls for apps in the "dating" and "fortune-telling" categories. The company explained:

We will reject these applications if they do not provide a unique, high-quality experience.
